Abstract
This research describes the selection mold material in casting process will produce the product with various character. Characters of the materials have significant effect towards cast product quality. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of casting variation on porosity, shrinkage, hardness value, chemical composition and micro material structure.This research uses remelting used brass in the induction room. The casting material variation used in this research are river sand mold, CO2 sand mold and metal mold.The data analysis showed that shrinkage percentage value for river sand mold is 1,20%, CO2 sand mold is 1,69%, while metal mold is 2,57%. The result of shrinkage showed that metal mold has the highest shrinkage and the lowest shrinkage is river sand mold and CO2 sand mold in between. From the Rockwell-B hardness test result, it is found the cariation of river sand mold is 11,84 HRB, CO2 sand mold is 18,06 HRB and metal mold is 28,31 HRB. And for chemical composition test, it can be found that there are some elements, those are (Cu) 66,4%, (Zn) 27,9%, (Pc) 22,2%, (Sn) 1,38%, and (Fe) 0,727%.
