Abstract
This research is based on the representation of national issues both that have happened and that is still a discourse on the performance of wayang kulit play "Gandamana Luweng" by Ki manteb Soedharsana in order to commemorate the month of Bung Karno as the medium of delivering it. Arya Gandamana is the name of a puppet character that is not contained in the Mahabharata epic texts, as it is the original creation of a Javanese poet. This research uses Semiotics de Saussure method that is signifier and signified which emphasizes the interaction between text with personal and cultural experience of its users, the interaction between convention in texts with convention experienced and expected by its users. The data in this study are the dialogues and scenes displayed by the figures containing national issues in the performance of wayang kulit play "Gandamana Luweng" by Ki Manteb Soedharsono. Leather puppet show "Gandamana Luweng". The meanings of denotation, connotation, and cultural values that represent national issues in the Gandamana Luweng play wayang kulit play are the signification of politics (position), religion, social (ethics) and lawlessness. these national issues were then used to criticize the Indonesian government and / or Indonesian society who drifted away from the primacy of the state and culture. Shadow puppet performances are expected to promote resilience to Indonesian culture, and the play Gandamana Luweng is chosen as a portrayal of the state.
