Abstract

Adolescents with physical disabilities will face life challenges such as, training their limiting bodies, optimizing body functions, and socializing with the social environment. Many of them feel inferior and feel not confident with their physical condition so that they are difficult to adapt. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and adjustment in adolescents with physical impairment. The hypothesis proposed was that there is a positive relationship between social support and adjustment to adolescents with impairment. The subjects of this study were 42 physical impairment adolescents at BBRSBD with education at least junior high school and did not have physical limitations on the hand. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique, and data collection using social support scale and adjustment scale. Data analysis technique using Pearson Product Moment technique. The results showed that the hypothesis proposed was accepted that there was a very significant positive relationship between social support and adjustment on physical impairment adolescents at BBRSBD. The higher the social support, the higher the adjustment, the lower the social support, the lower the adjustment of physical impairment adolescents at BBRSBD. The degree of social support variables in physical impairment adolescent is high, this was indicated by RE of 91.45 while RH is 72.5. Adjustment variable is high this is indicated by RE equal to 96,14 while RH equal to 77,5. The effective contribution of social support to adjustment is 62.3%, indicating that there are other factors that influence adjustment.
