Abstract

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease with inflammation, bronchial hyperactivity, and increasing of reactivity tovrious stimuli. Some symptoms of asthma that often appear, like tightness in the chest, wheezing, and coughing. One of the effective theraphy for treating inflammation of chronic disease, such as asthma is corticosteroids. The aim of this study to determine the rationale of corticosteroid in asthma outpatients in PKU Muhammadiyah Delanggu’s Hospital. Type of this research is non-experimental research with retrospective data and using descriptive method for analyze the data. Data were obtained from medical record books by viewing medical records of outpatient asthma in 2016 who using corticosteroid therapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Delanggu’s Hospital. Method of data retrieval is done by using purposive sampling method, that is data retrieval adjusted with inclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria of this study were outpatient asthma who received corticosteroid therapy in 2016, patients who more than 18 years old, and had complete medical record data. The samples obtained were then analyzed for their theupeutic rationality based on the exact parameters of the indication, exact patient, exact drug, and exact dose. Based on the samples that were obtained according to the inclusioncriteria, there were 47 patients. Analysis result of research obtained 100% exact indication, 43,48% exact patient, 43,48% exact drug, and 100% exact dose. It shows that the use of corticosteroid in PKU Muhammadiyah Delanggu Hospital in 2016 is rational.
