Abstract

Parents give different parenting to children, where it can differentiate between empathy in children. Men and women provide a different empathy to others. This study aims to determine the correlation between parenting style with empathy, the level of parenting style, levels of empathy, the effective contribution of parenting style with empathy and empathy diffirences in men and women. The subjects were 129 students of State Senior High School, Karanganyar consisting of 79 women and 50 men. The sampling technique in this research non-random cluster sampling. This research used quantitative method and using measuring scale of empathy and scale parenting style. The data analyse technique of this research is correlation of Product Moment from Carl Pearson using SPSS 16 for windows program. Based on the analysis of data obtained correlation coefficient of 0.338 with sig. (p) of 0.000 (p <0.01) means there is a significant positive relation between parenting style with empathy for the students of State Senior High School Colomadu, Karanganyar. Empathy had a mean empirical variables (RE) at 94.05 which is included in the high category, while variable parenting parents had a mean empirical (RE) at 88.35 which is included in the high category. The effective contribution parenting style with empathy is 11.4% so there is 88.6% that influenced by another factors. Based on the analysis using a t-test result sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p <0.05) and the average score of empathy in men amounted to 90.38 while the average score of empathy for the women was 96.37 (90.38 <96.37), meaning that there is a difference between empathy on male and female students of State Senior High School Colomadu, Karanganyar, women have higher empathy than men.
