Abstract

The patient’s obedience on taking oral hypoglycemic drugs is one of the factors in the success of a therapy, but in fact patient’s adherence on taking pills is low. Parameters of the success of therapy are controlled blood glucose levels and no complications. This study aims to determine the effect of adherence to the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs with the emergence of complications in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. This study was observational method using cross sectional analysis planand involving 98 respondents. The technique of collecting data was done through direct interview using questioner. This was undertaken using purposive sampling method. The samples are patients who were diagnosed with having type 2 diabetes mellitus in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. They were chosen as the patients who used at least 1 type of oral hypoglycemic drugs and came treatment in September-November 2017. Based on the results of the study, there is influence of adherence to the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs in patients of diabetes mellitus with the emergence of complications in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. The results of the Chi Square test shows p value of 0.001 with OR 20,000. It indicates that the patients with diabetes mellitus who do not adhere to the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs have a risk of complications by 20,000 times compared to patients with diabetes mellitus who adheres to the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs.
