Abstract
The objective of this study is to describe the aspect and the legal protection of Intellectual Property Rights toward the copper and the brass handicraft in Tumang Village, Cepogo, Boyolali based on The Laws No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyrights. The research method used is descriptive juridical-empirical method where the data are taken by interviewing the copper and the brass craftsmen in Tumang Village. The background of this study is the unregistered the legal protection for copper and brass handicraft in Tumang Village in Dirjen HKI. This can cause some problems such as plagiarism, copyrights and others which can cause the financial loss for the owner. The result shows that the copper and the brass handicraft in Tumang Village can be categorized as the expressions of traditional culture based on The Article No. 38 of The Laws of Copyrights because it is one of the handicrafts industry which managed hereditary owned and keep maintain the process in traditional ways. As the expressions of traditional culture, the copper and the brass handicraft must be given the legal protection as mentioned in The Laws of Copyrights Article 60 paragraph (1) that is indefinitely.
