Abstract
Abstract Intrinsic motivation is an impulse within someone to do several jobs as a selfawareness. Many government officers of various generations both the younger generation and who close to retirement age are still working with material orientation. This study aims to determine the intrinsic motivation differences of Civil Servants Echelon IV in Surakarta which is reviewed by Generation of Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y. The hypothesis of this research is Generation X have higher intrinsic motivation than the Baby Boomers and Y. Subjects in this study are government officers Echelon IV in Surakarta, amounting to 117 subjects taken from a population of 742 civil servants who obtained from several official in Surakarta’s City Hall complex. The sampling of the subjects in this study using non-random sampling technique with purposive sampling procedures of type heterogenous sampling. The method used in this research is quantitative. The measuring tool used in this research is intrinsic motivation scale. The data result was analyzed with One Way Anova by using SPSS version 15.00. Data analysis showed the result of hypothesis test of variable F equal to 0,131 and p = 0,877 (p> 0,05). The analysis of the data showed that there is no difference of intrinsic motivation in Generation Baby Boomers, Generation X, nor Generation Y. The empirical average of intrinsic motivation is 83.32 and hypothetical average is 65. The highest intrinsic motivation of government officers Echelon IV are Generation Y.
