Abstract
Biomass is one of alternative energy replacement fossil fuels that are renewable. Coal is usually used as the main fuel in the gasification process because it has high carbon and calorific values, but on the other hand coal has a considerable amount of pollution if used continuously. Gasification is a solid fuel conversion system that can be turned into a flammable gas. To overcome this problem can be done with co-gasification, where the system is mixing two or more fuels. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the initial temperature at reactor average temperature, ignition time, flame effective, and calorific value. This research used coconut shell biomass mixed with coal at the initial temperature variation of 400oC; 450oC; and 500oC. The reactor used was a bubbling fluidized bed reactor with a diameter of 160 mm and a height of 1230 mm. The results showed that the higher the initial temperature variations used the faster the firing time and the effective flame time the shorter the fire. This occurs in the initial temperature variation of 500oC, with a start time of fire at 15 minutes and an effective flame time of 10 minutes. The highest amount of heat was obtained at the initial temperature variation of 400oC with a calorific value of 740,693 kJ.
