Abstract
ROS which is produced by cigarette smoke is a free radical and one of the mediators of infertility that causes sperm dysfunction because it causes damage to DNA and increase apoptosis of spermatozoa. The advantages of ROS should be attenuated by antioxidants. Tea has many benefits for the body because it contains polyphenol catechins that have the potential as an antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals and can improve the viability. To know the effect of green tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis) on the viability of spermatozoa male mice (Mus musculus L) that exposed by cigarette smoke. This research used a laboratory experimental research design with posttest only with controlled group design method. The subjects of this research were 35 male mice (Mus musculus L). The mice were divided into 5 groups with different treatments, namely: normal K given only an aquades, K (-) exposed by cigarette smoke, P1 was exposed by cigarette smoke + 1.25% extract, P2 was exposed by cigarette smoke + 2.5% extract, P3 was exposed by cigarette smoke + 5% extract. The data was analyzed by statistically with statistical software for windows. Green tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis) can prevent the bad viability of male mice spermatozoa (Mus musculus L) which is exposed by cigarette smoke, as evidenced by the result of p <0.05 on the Post Hoc LSD test that there was a significant differences between the control group negative with the treatment group and the best result was in group P2 with tea leaf extract 2,5%. There is an effect of green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis) in preventing bad viability of male mice spermatozoa (Mus musculus L) that exposed by cigarette smoke.
