Abstract

Karimunjawa Island is one of the islands located in Karimunjawa National Park of Central Java Province, its high marine resources potential such as various types of fish and coral reefs. The large number of human activities such as snorkeling tours would be have an impact on marine ecosystem damage if it was not managed properly. This study aims to 1) determine the suitability level of marine ecotourism area on Karimunjawa Island based on geographic information system, and 2) to analyzed marine ecotourism management based on approach of the capacity of area to support snorkeling activity at Karimunjawa Island. This research uses survey method in determining the level of snorkeling ecotourism suitability, identification of the capacity, and analyzing the perception of tourists to the condition of tourism. The collecting of data were primary and secondary. Primary data collection techniques were conducted based on snorkeling conformity and the results of questionnaires on 72 tourists in Karimunjawa Island for snorkeling activity. The data processing of tourist perception toward the tourist condition was processed using IBM SPSS Statistic 20 software. The results of this study indicate that Karimunjawa Island has a level of conformity was dominated by the class in accordance with the area of 726.14 Ha. The amount of capacity of the region for the suitability class is quite appropriate 58091 / day, which means still qualified and worthy to be used for tourism.
