Abstract
One of the easiest way to absorb information is learning modality. The study value of medical students at Muhammadiyah Surakarta University shows the low mean, it is 56.69. Most student can learn optimally during learning activities combining visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This study aims to determine the difference of memory retention between unimodal and bimodal stimulus. This study used true experimental design. The samples size were 45. Short-term memory retention was measured by the posttest result after giving of the material shortly. Ten days lapse was done posttest back to measure long-term memory retention. Data analysis used was paired T test. Result of this study shows mean difference between pretest-posttest of STM in the visual group was 8.13 and the audiovisual group was 8.50. Mean difference between pretest-posttest of LTM in the visual group was 4.34 and the audiovisual group was 5.18. The conclusion is Memory retention of medical students at University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta with bimodal stimulus is better than unimodal stimulus.
