Abstract

The Gay Community is one of the groups that using social networking as a means to establish identity, because there is a presumption that the gay group is a collection people who are not welcome in the real world. A gay who already knows his own identity is the beginning for them to make the process of coming out. The gay people do coming out because they feel secure with the identity they have to show to society. The research method is Qualitative Descriptive Method. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, in-depth interviews with research sources, gays in Surakarta who are coming out through Path application, and documentation study in the form of “screen capture”. Informant determination technique is purposive sampling technique. Method of data analysis in this research use analysis triangulation to ensure data validation. Gay Coming Out in social media paths is a gay who has revealed his true self as well as open his good thoughts, feelings and behaviors which are told consciously and openly to others through the features present in the Path application. Coming out is done through certain stages so as to make gays capable establish their identity and develop their identity after coming out. Commonly used features to show gay identity in Path application are comments, photos, and status updates. The coming out stage passed by gays includes awareness or sensitization, Internalization or acceptance, disclosure including the coming out stage, synthesis or integration in this case the formation of identity experienced stability.
