Abstract
Designing the footing should consider the bearing capacity of the soil below it. Clay have low bearing capacity because of its character which is it will be solid when on dry condition and become plastic when the moisure content is high. Skirted footing is one of the alternatives that can be used to increase the bearing capacity and reduce the settlement of footings on soil. This research presented the result of the bearing capacity test on skirt footings and without skirt on clay. There are variations in testing’s many as 9 steel foundation sample, there are, L/B 0 (0/75); 0 (0/100); 0 (0/150); 0,67 (100/150); 1,00 (150/150); 1,00 (100/100); 1,33 (100/75); 1,50 (150/100) and 2,00 (150/75). Water content in the clays is conditioned by 15% for each test with 100 times of compaction for every layers. From the result of loading test, it can be known that skirted footing got bigger bearing capacity than footing without skirt. Besides that, the skirt effectively reduce the settlement happens reviewed by the load of 1 kN. The wider and longer of the skirt footing, make the bearing capacity increased and the settlement progressively smaller. It also noted that on the condition when the width and the diameter are same, the settlements on square footing are smaller than rounded one.
