Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the interpersonal communication of parents with active child smokers aged 13-17 years in Ngreden village, Wongosari sub-district, Klaten regency. Researchers use the theory of interpersonal communication according to De Vito. The research is analytical descriptive using qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were parents and children of active smokers aged 13-17 years in Ngreden village, Wonosari sub-district, Klaten regency. Data collection is done by interviewing and collecting documents. Sampling technique using purposive sampling technique.Data validity, using data tringulation. Analytical technique using interactive model. The results of research according to the 5 aspects of interpersonal communication according to De Vito is, openness of parents can receive input and complaints of children, empathy (empathy) parents provide the needed child, support (Supportiveness) parents provide support for positive, positive feeling (positiveness) parents do not put suspicion on children, equality (equality) parents create a familiar atmosphere.
