Abstract

Background: The improvement of toothpaste is getting increased and increased every year through various variants of toothpaste such as herb toothpaste that has been used much by people and also influence the attitude and practice conducted by dentists especially in selecting herb toothpaste or non-herb toothpaste. The dentists have different knowledge, attitude and practice in every region.Purpose: To know the dentists’ knowledge, attitude and practiceon the product of piper betel toothpaste in the Surakarta residency area of Central Java.Research Method: Using the design of cross sectional study by giving questionnaire to 84 respondents of dentists in Surakarta and Sukoharjo. Purposive random sampling was implemented in two different regencies with a total of 17 sub districts. The data analisis used Chi-Square test and Mann-Whitney (the value of p <0.05).Results:Revealed that from the number of samples of 84 dentists, 42 dentistsin Surakarta had an average knowledge of 8.90, an average attitude of 7.02, an average ofpractice 6.24. Sukoharjo area with 42 dentists had an average knowledge of 9.33, an average attitude of 7,64, an average practiceof 6.33. Conclusion: There was no difference in the results of value among knowledge, attitude, and practiceof the dentists regarding the selectionand the use of herb toothpaste and piper betel toothpaste in Surakarta Residency area that consists of Surakarta and Sukoharjo.
