Abstract
The coupling beam is a structural element that connects the structural wall to provide additional rigidity and energy dissipation. In many cases, geometric limits produce high-ratio couplings and high clean spans. Thus, these blocks can be controlled by shear and experience a great deal of loss of stiffness and strength during an earthquake. in practice today, the coupling beam is very difficult to construct, especially in the case of slim coupling beams whose aspect ratio is in order of 3.0. This is due in large part to the reinforcement required in the diagonal direction. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of coupling beam with the addition of diagonal reinforcement. Specification of coupling beam planning using cement comparison, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate 1: 2: 3. In the research done do the manufacture of test object beam with the size of 90 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm with the width of the specimen 3 variations. The study of this coupling beam tested the compressive strength to obtain deformation, drift, and displacement ductility values. The value of deformation of 59.50 mm (unreformed) and 57.98 mm (reinforced) beam deformation gained 2.55%. For the value of non-reinforcing coupling block drift -4.18 whereas in the coupling beam with the reinforcement is -5.10 has a difference of value 18.04%. Then ductility analysis obtained value 2.143 (without reinforcement) and 2.242 (with reinforcement) has a difference in value of 4.45%.
