Abstract
Mortar is a mixture of cement, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and water. One way to increase mortar strength is to increase the density by finding the grain arrangement of grain size that can fill the empty space on the cement matrix, through the selection of this fine gradation will be obtained very high volume unity (packing density). The principle of packing density theory is to plan the selection of fine grain grains that can fill the cement matrix cavities to the maximum. The use of fly ash is very beneficial because it saves cement, and reduces the heat of hydration in the concrete. In this study the specimens used were cylinders, with a diameter of 15cm and a height of 30cm. Tensile strength testing and tensile strength were performed at concrete time of 1 day and 28 days. Variations in the test include the method of packing density with a comparison of 20mm rough aggregate gradation with 12.5mm rough aggregate ie 45:15, 42:18, 40:20, as well as variations of treatment ie dry air, covered wet sack, and soaked. From the tests conducted can be concluded that the concrete age of 1 day and 28 days with immersion treatment to produce the compressive strength and tensile strength of the highest.
