Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder that gives affect to the various body system organs which influences the patients’ life quality. Public health center of Purwosari Surakarta has recorded that the number of diabetes mellitus patient in its working area was 997 people in 2016 with different life quality. The life quality of diabetes mellitus patients is influenced by several factors such as demographic factors including age and marital status, medical factors including long suffering and complications experienced, and psychological factors consisting of depression and anxiety. The purpose of this research is to understand the overview of life quality of diabetes mellitus patients in the working area of Purwosari Surakarta public health center. This research used descriptive Observasional research design. The population of this research was all diabetes mellitus patients in the working area of Purwosari Surakarta public health center; there were 997 people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and the number of sample was 91 respondents. The assessment of life quality was using DQLCTQ-R (Diabetes Quality of Life Clinical Trial Questioner-Related) life quality questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using frequency distribution. The result of this research showed that the characteristics of respondents were as follows: the average age of respondents was 67, 18 years old, the majority gender of respondents was female, the duration of suffering diabetes mellitus was mostly 1 to 5 years, the education level of respondents was mostly elementary school, and respondents mostly did not experience complication. For the life quality, the respondents mostly have low quality of life that was 58, 92%, and the others 41, 8% have high quality of life. Based on the result of this research, the society is expected to increase awareness to the diabetes mellitus patients, so they can have a good quality of life and live well.
