Abstract

Modification of ordinary pick-up cars into pick up that can be dumped requires the implementer modification to make the appropriate material selection. Oftentimes the selection of materials is not based on certain specifications or criteria. This research performs finite element method (MEH) simulation in materials selection process using fatigue analysis with Goodman method on modification based on security score criteria, number of duty cycle, and deformation of nine common material profile form on the market. From the simulation results that the safest material profile is RHS 100x50x6 mm with a loading security number of 3.97, the number of duty cycle 2.8 x 109 cycles, with a total deformation of 0.12 mm, and a von-misses velocity of 21.70 MPa at loading of 4561.65 N. The most economical and safe profile to recommend is Channel C 125x50x4 mm with security number 3.49, total deformation of 0.11 mm, von-misses stress of 26.21 MPa with number of work cycle 1.33 x 109 on loading 4561.65 N.
