Abstract

Expressive utterance is one of the five categories of speech acts. The categories of expressive utterance are feeling about thanking, apologizing, accusing, priding, congratulation, and condolence. This research aims to analyze the subtitling strategy and translation quality of epressive utterance on Born to Race movie and its subtitle. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. In collecting data, this research uses documentation. The data are analyzed using translation analysis theory conducted by Gotllieb (1992). The result of the research shows that there are 60 data of expressive utterance analized using subtitling strategy and translation quality. There are 5 Subtitling strategies found in this research. Paraphrase 38,33%, Transfer 35%, Expansion 11,66%, Condensation 13,33%, and Resignation 1,66%. The most subtitling strategy that used is Paraphrase. The translation quality of this research. Accuracy of translation results is 37 data accurate level of translation (62%), 21 data less accurate level of translation (35%), 2 data inaccurate level of translation (3%). Acceptability of the translation result is 54 data acceptable level (90%), 6 data less acceptable level (10%), and there is no unacceptable level in the the translation quality, Readibility of translation results is 52 data readable level (87%), 8 data less readable level or (13%), and there is no data unreadable level.
