Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the most natural resources which has several kinds of plants that can be used as natural dyes. The trend of "back to nature" leads to the development of the use of natural dyes more increasing. This phenomenon encourages more studies to obtain natural dyes. Alternative raw materials used are leaves of Sea-almond which are fresh or dried. The purpose of the study is to examine and utilize the leaves of Sea-almond as a producer of color and determine the effect of the variables to the maceration time, the treatment of materials, and types of substances fixation. Extraction used in this study is the maceration method, the samples were soaked with the different maceration time started from 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 days. Extraction that produces the best tannin levels is on samples of fresh leaves extracted in 6 day immersion with tannin level of 12.01 g/L and 8 days immersion on dried leaves with tannin content of 21.75 g/L. Then the cloth that has been dyed fixed with alum, quicklime and lotus with the same concentration to the tune of 10 g/L. Testing parameters studied were the quality of test fastness to washing, disfigurement, wet rub and dry rub. From this research, natural dyes have the fastness of color to washing with a "pretty good", fastness of color against the desecration of the value of "good", desecration of color to dry rub with a "sufficient", while the desecration of color to wet rub generates low standard value of color assessment on a standard scale of desecration (Staining scale).
