Abstract
This study aims to describe multiculturalism in school with case studies in SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta 2017, various obstacles encountered and solutions provided. This research uses qualitative type, data collection with source triangulation and technique. Data analysis applies interactive model through collection data, reduction data, presentation data and conclusion. The results show that multiculturalism in school is based on the findings of researchers of multicultural equality of religious, ethnic and gender differences in multicultural interactions between teachers and students, multicultural interaction between teacher and teacher, and multicultural interaction between students and students. The composition of teachers, employees and students of class XI Science and Social SHS 1 Surakarta based on religion, ethnicity, sex and status comprised of Moslem, Christian, Catholic and Hindu. Tribe adopted by the teacher and employees and tribe Java, Batak, Madura, Arabic, and Chinese. There are two gender: men and women. Constraints that often occur is the adaptation of new students at the beginning of entry into high school difficult to adapt to the multicultural environment and the unavailability of space for the process of learning Hindu religion. The solution is to instill multicultural values of difference in new students.
