Abstract

Background: The public are aware of the importance of health and adequacy of nutrients in the body as well as the existence of concerns on nutritional intake from food they consumed can not meet the needs of the body, causing herbal products and dietary supplement popular among people and sold in the market. Dentists need to have knowledge, attitude, and practice about herbal and dietary supplement to be able to provide a thorough and on going care in patients who present in the practice of dentistry. Objective: To know the comparison of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) dentists about herbal and dietary supplement in the region of Surakarta and Sukoharjo, Central Java. Research methods: This research is using analytic observational method with cross sectional study design. Purposive random sampling was applied in this study with 84 respondents dentists in Surakarta and Sukoharjo and using survey research as an instrument of the KAP. The data analysis that used in this research is Mann-Whitney test (value of p < 0.05). Results: This study showed that 84 dentists with the division of 42 dentists in Surakarta and 42 dentist in Sukoharjo. The mean of knowledge dentist in Surakarta 8.52, the mean of attitude is 6.74 ,the mean of practice 5.14 . The mean of knowledge dentists in Sukoharjo 9.07, the mean of attitude 6.50, the mean of practice 6.00 . Conclusion: There was no significant difference of the knowledge, attitude, and practice dentists about herbal and dietary supplement in the region of Surakarta and Sukoharjo, Central Java.
