Abstract
The purpose of this research is to know the strength of hibiscus bark fiber composite polyester shaft on the torsion testing and to observe the macro photo of the fracture after the torsion test. The initial process of cutting the bark of the hibiscus tree bark trunk hibiscus continued immersion for 1 month. Furthermore, the process of peeling fibers from the stalks were taken 2 layers of the skin. Flushing using clean water aid. The drying under the sun to dry subsequent immersion process KMnO4 5% per 1 liter of distilled water for 2 jam.Penjemuran under the sun to dry oven process continued until the water content of 10%. Manufacture of composites made with a printing method (molding), the ratio of 30% fiber, fiber orientation of 30 ° / -30 °, 50 ° / -50 °, and 70 ° / -70 °, using polyester resin BQTN series 157. The testing process is torsion testing that is used to describe the torsional strength and fracture observed macro image composite polyester fiber trunk hibiscus. The test results are compiled composite twist on the symmetry of 30 ° / -30 °, 50 ° / -50 °, and 70 ° / -70 °, the torsional strength of the fiber orientation angle of 30 ° is equal to 7207 kg / mm2, fiber orientation angle 50o amounted 6,262 kg / mm2 and fiber orientation angle with optimum torsional strength is at an angle of 70 ° fiber orientation of 8270 kg / mm2. Shear strain to the fiber orientation angle of 70o of 0158, fiber orientation angle of 50o for 0223 and the angle of fiber orientation with optimum strain is at 30 ° fiber orientation for 0360. The optimum shear modulus is contained in the 50 ° fiber orientation of 62 710 kg / mm2 to 30 ° fiber orientation of 20 190 kg / mm2 and 70 ° fiber orientation of 51 997 kg / mm2.
