Abstract

ABSTRACT Soil is used as a foundation of construction in the work of civil engineering. As a foundation of construction, soil has many problems. Consolidation occurs in a long time and has low frictional strength. This condition occurs to the fine grained soil, especially clay. The characteristic of the soil at Nambuhan village at 2 Grobogan regency is sticky in rainy season. However, It becomes solid and fractional in dry season. Based on the case above, the research was conducted to know the physical characteristics and soil mechanism at Nambuhan village, Purwodadi subdistrict, Grobogan regency. The research was conducted through several testing steps, namely water content, specific gravity, limit of Atterberg, hydrometer and filter analysis, DST, UCT, soil consolidation, soaked and unsoaked CBR by concerning on standard of ASTM and testing procedure at laboratory of soil mechanism at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The result showed that w = 11,809%, Gs = 2,57, LL = 84,24%, PL = 33,35%, SL = 28,52%, PI = 50,89%. The result of gradation test showed that the grained soil passed the filter at number 200 with the percentage of 94,01%. According to USCS sampling, soil classification belongs to CH category. The category belongs to inorganic clay category with high plasticity. According to AASHTO, the sample belongs to classification of A-7-5. The testing result of Standard Proctor resulted the value of the optimal water content of 32% and dried content weight of 1,29 gr/cm3. The testing result of DST showed the value of soil cohesion (c) =1,3629 kg/cm2 and the value of frictional angle(φ) = 6,92°. Meanwhile, the testing result of UCT showed the value of qu= 2,55 kg/cm2. The testing result of consolidation showed that the value of Cv was 0,00305 cm2/dt, the value of Cc was 0,501, and the value of Sc was 0,1580 cm. 6k6At last, the testing result of soaked CBR was 0,162% and unsoaked CBR was 1%.
