Abstract
Soil reinforcement using vertical drain is an improvement effort with the aim to increasing the soil bearing capacity. In this research will shows the test resutls of soft clay soil bearing capacity reinforced by lime above sand column compared to the bearing capacity of the soil without reinforcement. The test was done in laboratory with 6 samples, consisting of 2 samples without reinforcement and 4 samples with a lime above sand column reinforcement. Each sample was tested using a loading test apparatus with diameter 100 mm and 150 mm of footing foundation and for a reinforced sample using 100 mm and 150 mm diameter of lime above sand column, with maintaining the same moisture and compacting content. From the test results showed that reinforcement using lime above sand column increase the soil bearing capacity compared the soil without reinforcement. On the other hand, enlarge the diameter of the footing foundation has an increment in soil bearing capacity more than anlarge the diameter of lime above sand column.
