Abstract

A single parent mother has multiple roles as a mother and a father. How does a single parent mother behave after losing a spouse really determine her future life with her children. Single parent mother are required to be a optimistic person toward her future life. The phenomenon that occured in Sukoharjo Regency from 3 single parent mother who lefted by her spouse before the age of 45 years, they states can rise after experiencing sadness. Referring how the single parent mother can rise from sadness and can bring up their confidence for the future, so it is necessary to probe beyond any factors that can bring out confidence and optimism in a single parent mother selves. The informants of this study are 4 single parent mother who live in Sukoharjo Regency and have at least 1 child, has a job and has been a single parent for more than 6 months. The results of this study are, the psychological aspects that influence the optimism for the future life of a single parent mother is : psychic aspect (positive thinking, spirit of life, and faith in the Godness of life ahead), aspect explanatory style (permanence, unpleasant events = temporary. personality, unpleasant events = external). Factors that influence optimism: 1) faith in God, 2) a well circumstances of her children, 3) family, friends and society around support, and 4) can solve the problem postpartum so well.
