Abstract

Subjective well being is a person's way of evaluating their life, which is where the evaluation includes cognitive and effective. Factors affecting subjective well being are temperament, traits, other personality traits, social relationships, income, unemployment, culture, age and gender, and religious commitment. This study was aimed to (1) understand the correlation between religious commitment and subjective well being among mountaineering club students, (2) understand religious commitment level among mountaineering club stuents, (3) understand subjective well being level among mountaineering club students, (4) understand the effective contribution of religious commitment to subjective well being. Subjects of this study were 49 mountaineering club students who were chosen randomly by using random sampling method. The proposed hypothesis of this study was there is a correlation between religious commitment and subjective well being among mountaineering club students in Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The data was then analyzed by using product moment analysis and the coefficient number was 0.507 with the number of significance p = 0.000 (p < 0.01) which means there was a correlation between religious commitment and subjective well being among mountaineering club students in Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The effective contribution of religious commitment to subjective well being was 25.7% which means there was 74.3% of other variables which influencing subjective well being level such as character, trait, self esteem, social relation, unemployment, culture, and income.
