Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension keep increasing throughout the world, including in Indonesia. Other than medication, hypertension patients should also comply to the diet to control blood pressure. Some factors that influence dietary adherence are family support and knowledge. This research aims to determine the association of family support and knowledge on hypertension diet to dietary adherence in hypertension outpatient at RSU Queen Latifa Sleman Yogyakarta. This is an observational research with cross sectional approach. The number of subjects in this study according to inclusion and exclusion criteria were 34 patients which recruited using accidental sampling technique. Data on knowledge and family support were obtained using questionnaire, while data on blood pressure were obtained using sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment test when normally distributed or Rank Spearman test when data were not normally distributed. The results showed that 94.12% of subjects had a good level of knowledge, 64.71% of the subjects had good family support and 94.12% subject adhere to the hypertension diet . There is no assosiation between knowledge level and dietary adherence (p=0.725) and there is an assosiation between family support and dietary adherence (p=0.042).
