Abstract
Degenerative processes can lead to a decrease of endurance in elderly, resulting in an increase of health problems, including gout. Gout is a metabolic disorder which characterized by an increase of uric acid level, called hyperuricemia. Factors affecting high level of uric acid are purine intake, Vitamin C intake and nutritional status. This research aimed to To determine the association of purine intake, Vitamin C intake and nutritional status to uric acid level in elderly at Posyandu Lansia Panjang Yuswo in Pajang Laweyan Surakarta. This is an observational research with cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 33 respondents which recruited by consecutive sampling. Purine and Vitamin C intake data were obtained using 24 hour food recall for 3 unconsecutive days, nutritional status were obtained through measuring of waist circumference and uric acid level data were obtained from blood sampling through the vein cubiti mediana which then analyzed using fotometric method. All data were analyzed using Rank Spearman test. 78.8% of respondents had low purine intake, 81.8% had low Vitamin C and 63.6% of respondents were obese. The p-value of uric acid level to purine intake, Vitamin C intake and nutritional status were 0.020, 0.747, 0.000, respectively. There is an association of nutritional status and purine intake to uric acid level and no association was found between vitamin C intake and uric acid level in elderly at Posyandu Lansia Panjang Yuswo in Pajang Laweyan Surakarta.
