Abstract

Rice plant is a food crop of most people in Indonesia so that the amount of rice production each year will affect the economic stability. More than 50% of national rice production comes from Java Island so that if production decreases will affect national rice production. Brebes Regency is one of the rice producing areas in Java Island with the majority of the population working in the agricultural sector. Effective and efficient estimation of paddy rice production is needed to know rice production quickly and accurately so it can be used as a consideration in determining the policy of a region especially in Brebes Regency. Estimation of rice production estimation in this research is based on rice farming area, land suitability level, and farming pattern every year. The research method used is based on remote sensing and GIS approach supported by direct field survey data. Remote sensing approach and GIS are used to find out the area of rice farming and the influence of the level of agricultural land suitability. A field survey was conducted to find out the estimation result of rice farm production in Brebes Regency. The total area of paddy farming in Brebes Regency reached 77,344.65 ha consisting of 69,252,11 ha of land suitability class and 8,092,53 ha of land suitability class less suitable. Grade suitability of paddy agricultural land and harvest number in one year have an effect on rice productivity. The same grade of conformity of rice will have different productivity if the harvest per year is different. The calculation result of estimation of paddy production in Brebes Regency each year can reach 669.586,939 tons which is obtained from the calculation of each productivity class. Class productivity of paddy farm in accordance with harvest number 2-3 times per year has the highest production of 524,811,979 ton or more than 78% of total rice production in Brebes Regency.
