Abstract
The acid-base indicator is needed in the experimental class, especially in the sub-chapter of acid-base topic in secondary school. Adam Hawa leaves contain anthocyanin substance and it can be used as an alternative acid-base indicator. The aim of this study was to investigate the discoloration of indicator paper made from the extract of Adam Hawa leaves with variety of drying temperature and type of solvent. This study used experimental method with complete randomized design (RAL) with two factors of treatment: drying temperature and solvent type. The drying temperature numbers used in this research are 50ºC and 80ºC, while the types of solvent used are alcohol 70%, distilled water, and mixture of both. The result showed that variations of drying temperature and type of solvent affect the sharpness of the indicator paper color from Adam Hawa leaves and also the test result of acid-base solvent. The paper color is sharper at 50ºC compared with 80ºC. The best color of paper was shown from alcohol 70% + distilled water solvent. Paper indicator produced coral color in strong acid solvent, while in strong base solvent it had a green gradation. The most obvious color shown from the indicator paper with the treatment of 50ºC which was macerated with alcohol 70% + distilled water solvent.
