Abstract
Education is universal and continues unbroken from generation to generation in the world. The presence of Islam is in the hope to be capable of changing people's behavior, particularly in terms of morals, and in the efforts to establish the main personality. Islamic education in Indonesia has been known since Islam entered Indonesia in the 7th century AD brought by merchants and mubalig from Arab. With the education system that was still informally, then updated and refined to a more regular and systematic (formal) since the advence of the Islamic reform movement and began the familiar system of formal education in Indonesia. One of the Indonesian Muslim reformers who work directly in the field of education is Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of the Muhammadiyah organization. Born in Kauman Yogyakarta with the name of Muhammad Darwis in August 1, 1868. Thanks to his struggle as well as his services, the Indonesian government designated him as a national hero in raising awareness of this nation through the Islamic and education reform through Presidential decree No. 657 1961. Departing from the above background, the authors will try to assess Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan thinking more deeply. So it can be formulated a concept of Islamic education in accordance with patterns of Kyai Dahlan thought and its relevance in the present. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research, using library research which examines the data of manuscripts or magazines that comes from the treasury of literature. The procedure of this research is to produce descriptive data in the form of written data after analysis of thinking (concrete analyze) of a text. Islamic education is the education of all components or aspects based on the teachings of Islam. Islamic education based on the Al-Qur'an and Sunnah is a major source of Islamic teachings. The purpose of Islamic education as a whole, is namely, shaping one's personality to be perfect man with a pattern of piety to Allah SWT. According to Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan, basic education which needs to be enforced and implemented is moral, individual and community (social) education. So as to give birth to a new human being which is capable of performing as a clerical-intelligentsia, meaning a Muslim who has the firmness of faith and science, and physical and spiritual strenght,.
