Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition that occurs when the body can not produce enough insulin or can not use insulin, which is characterized by increased levels of glucose in the blood. Complications of this DM disease can be acute or chronic, makrovaskuler or mikrovaskuler. One of the most frequent microvascular complications of DM and can worsen the quality of life is peripheral neuropathy. Sukoharjo District Health Office profile, in 2014 there were 5,413 cases of DM, this case has increased from the year 2013 as many as 5.052 cases of DM. The highest case reported by Sukoharjo Public Health Center was 1,077 cases. This study aims to determine the description of the incidence of peripheral neuropathy in people with diabetes mellitus in the work area Puskemas Sukoharjo. This research is quantitative research and descriptive approach. The population of this research are all diabetes mellitus patients in the work area of puskesmas Sukoharjo as many as 1183 people with diabetes mellitus which includes DM type 1 and type 2 DM in Sukoharjo Public Health Center. Sample research as many as 93 patients with DM obtained by accidental sampling technique. The data collection used questionnaire, while data analysis using descriptive test. The conclusion of this research is the characteristic of patient of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the work area of Sukoharjo Public Health Center mostly is over 60 years old, female type, has no smoking history, no hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus less than 5 years, while the incidence of peripheral neuropathy In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the work area of Sukoharjo Puskesmas is largely absent.
