Abstract

tannin compounds that have an analgesic effect. The purpose of this study was to investigate the analgesic effect caused by infusion of African leaf in acetic acid-induced mice. Twenty five mice were divided into five groups consisting of negative control group (akuades), positive control (aspirin), and infusion of African leaf at doses of 1,9 g/kg, 4,15 g/kg, and 8,3 g/kg. Each group was given peroral 20 minutes before induction of acetic acid 0.5% intraperitonically, then observed the amount of writhing every five minutes for one hour. Average amounts of writhing counted, SD, % analgesic protection. After that it was tested one way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) and LSD (Least Significant Difference) statistic with 95% confidence level. Infusion of African leaf dose 1,9 g/kg showed a percentage of analgesic of 55.98 ± 4.84%. Infusa dose 1,9 g/kg compared to negative control has not given analgesic effect. In the African leaf infusion dose of 4,15 g/kg, and 8,3 g/kg had an analgesic percentage, respectively for 66.52 ± 4.46%; and 78.12 ± 2.45%. Infusion of African leaf dose of 4,15 g/kg, and 8,3 g/kg have analgesic effect that is equivalent to aspirin dose 65 mg/kg (p> 0,05).
