Abstract

Mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) has a content of mangiferin is known have a analgesic effects by inhibiting the synthesis of the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2). The purpose of this study was to know how much the effect of analgesics caused by infusion of mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) on mice induced acetic acid. In this study used methods of writhing test. Twenty five mice were divided into 5 groups. In Group I was given aquadest as negative control, group II was given Sodium diclofenac doses of 3,25mg/kgBW as positive controls, groups III, IV and V was given treatment infusion leaves mango with a dose of 1 g/kgBW, 1,9 g/kgBW, and 3,7 g/kgBW. Each group was given treatment in the per oral, 30 minutes then injected acetic acid 0.5% in intraperitoneal. Further observed and calculated the amount of stretching every 5 minutes for 1 hour. The results showed that mango leaf infusion at dose 1,9 g/kgBW gave the percentage of analgesic power 61,6 ± 3,3%, but still weak when compared with positive control. At a dose of 3,7 g/kgBW, mango leaf infusion gave the percentage of analgesic power of 73,7 ± 2,6% which statistically gave an analgesic effect equal to the positive control.
