Abstract

This study aims to understand and describe marital satisfaction in couples with different ethnic backgrounds. This research uses a qualitative approach, data collection using semi-structured interview technique as the main technique and open questionnaire as a supporter. Informants in this study are 5 married couples who married against different ethnic backgrounds, and have been married at least 5 years, inorman selected by purposive sampling. For the questionnaire, distributed to 80 respondents who are married couples without any specificity. The results of the study with the questionnaire obtained data that as many as 87.5% of couples are satisfied with the marriage that is lived. Furthermore from the interview data, there are internal and external factors that affect. Internal factors are mutual love, communication, commitment, personality and spirituality. While external factors are children and age of marriage, flexibility, economy, and extended family. Psychological dynamics arises in the aspect of communication, extended family, and spirituality that becomes a virtue in different tribal couples. It can be concluded that satisfaction in a marriage with a different ethnic background, is not much different from the satisfaction of most couples marriage.
