Abstract
This study aims to describe: 1) The role of teachers in developing social interaction of children with autism in SD Al Firdaus Surakarta, 2) What factors cause autistic children to experience less social interaction in SD Al Firdaus Surakarta, 3) Efforts by teachers in developing social interaction in SD Al Firdaus Surakarta. The type of this research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use interactive analysis. Technique of examination of data validity using triangulation of source and technique. The results showed that: 1) developmental measures of social interaction for autistic children:a) Teacher as a facilitator, Teachers accompany and provide learning methods that make it easier for children to understand learning materials b) teachers as mentors, Teachers instruct, direct and guide children to improve social interaction c) teachers as educators, Teachers provide encouragement and motivation so that children can actively interact socially2) obstacles of children with autism in social interaction: a) Children have difficulty in social interaction b) Children are less concerned about the environment c) Children with autism have not been able to communicate well 3) the efforts of teachers: a) Teachers encourage children to interact with peers b) The teacher provides several therapies to help the child when there is a problem c) Teachers work with parents
