Abstract

The problem of the study is to reveal how the inferiority feeling of the major character reflected in Thomas Hardy’s Jude The Obscure. The objectives of the study are to analyze the structural element of the novel and to analyze the character of Sue Bridehead based on individual psychological perspective. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study is Jude The Obscure novel written by Thomas Hardy. The data sources are divided into two namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the novel itself and the secondary data is the other sources related to the analysis. The techniques of data collection are observation and library research. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The result of the research shows that the problems of the major character are caused by inferiority feeling. The writer finds that Sue’s inferiority feeling leads her become a tough woman in making decision in her life.
