Abstract
This study aims to describe the planting character of hard work and appreciate the achievements of students in dance majors SMK Negeri 8 Surakarta including obstacles encountered and solutions made. This research data was collected from informants, places, events, and archives. Technique of collecting data by using method of interview, observation, and documentation. Analyze the data using an interactive model that has several stages. The stages are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the form of planting the character of hard work and appreciate achievement can be described as follows. The cultivation of the character of the hard work of the students of the dance department is realized by way of the learner must be able to do the task thoroughly, manage the time through the motto of work hard, able to create healthy competition, and can find solution to the problems that arise. Then the planting of the characters appreciate the achievement of the students of the dance department is realized by being able to provide opportunities in displaying ideas or talents, appreciating the products made by students, giving praise for other students who complete the task well, and earnest in achievement. This research also shows the obstacles of planting the character of hard work, among others, less responsibility for learning, lack of enthusiasm, less competitive, often late to class, no principles to learn, less concerned about the motto of studying hard, envy, and lack of confidence. The solution is the teacher provides motivation, guidance, spirit, application of self-styled attitude and direction to the students not to be lazy in learning to do the task to completion. Then the obstacle of planting the character to appreciate the achievement of the students of dance less confident, embarrassed, insecure, afraid to display the idea, the lack of caring attitude and gotong-royong, lazy to learn and do not have business achievement. The teacher's solution provides guidance, good examples, motivation, tasks, using fun learning methods.
