Abstract

Background : Hypertension is a disease caused by poor lifestyle and dietary pattern. Excessive consumption of high-fat diet can cause an increase in blood pressure. Objective : To determine the association of fat intake with blood pressure in civil servant of Surakarta city office. Methods : This is an observational study with cross sectional design. A total of 39 people were recruited from the Civil Servants in the Health Department of Surakarta using simple random sampling technique. Fat intake were obtained from interview using 1-month semi quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ). Blood pressure obtained from the measurement using sphygmomanometer. Data analysis were performed using Pearson Product Moment and Rank Spearman. Result : 89,7% of respondents have moderate fat intake. While 10,3% have high consumption of fat. 56,4% of respondents have normal systolic blood pressure, while 43,6% have high systolic blood pressure. 48,7% of respondents have normal diastolic blood pressure, while 51,3% have high diastolic blood pressure. There is an association between fat intake with systolic blood pressure (p=0,009, p<0,05). There is an association between fat intake with diastolic blood pressure (p=0,003, p<0,05). Conclusion : There is an association of fat intake with systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Keywords: Fat Intake, Blood Pressure Bibliography: 78 (1997-2016)
