Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus occurs because the target cells of insulin such as muscle, liver, and adipose tissue do not respond normally to insulin. Long-term therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus will greatly determine the level of drug use adherence. This study aimed to examine the level of adherence among the patient with DM in taking the drugs,and the factor related to their adherence as well as the effect of giving the number of drug items with adherence scores on the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The research was conducted by cross sectional method. Respondents are the patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus age 17–65 have already taken antidiabetic drugs for at least a month ago and went to the outpatients in RSUD Dr.Tjitrowardojo Purworejo when the study is February–March 2017. The data was held by having an interview using MMAS-8 questionnaire as the instrument questionnaire and taking medical record data.. The statistic studi used is Spearman Rho correlation and Linear Regression Test aimed to know effect between the amount of the drugs and the level of adherence in taking the drugs among the patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. The result of the study showed that 53 respondents obtained high adherence level of 32.1%, moderate compliance rate 28.3%, and low compliance rate of 39.6%. Factors that affect the level of adherence to drug use in patients with diabetes mellitus namely education and employment with p value <0,05, and a positive correlate. From result of linear regression test found that there was a significant influence between amount of drug item with compliance score in patient diabetes melitus with result of significant p= 0,012 (p> 0,05) with low corelation of 11,6%.
