Abstract
Red cabbage plants (Brassica oleraceavarCapitata L) contained high flavonoids and this compound actively antiplatelet. The formulation of red cabbage plants into tablets could facilitate its use. Optimization is performed to determine the optimum formula. This study was aimed to determine the ratio of CMC-Na as binder and methylcellulose as disintegrant toward physical properties of tablets resulting in the optimum formulas of red cabbage extract tablets. Optimization was performed using simplex lattice design method with 5 different formulas of CMC-Na and methyl cellulose concentration. The concentration ratio CMC Na with methyl cellulose in five formulation of 2%:6%; 3%:5%; 4%:4%; 5%:3%; 6%:2% and total component is 8% from tablet weight. The determinant parameters used were flow rate, the angle of repose, tapped density, uniformity of weight, hardness, friability and disintegration time. Optimized data is processed using Design Expert v.10.03.1 (trial). The optimum formula prediction obtained was verified and analyzed statistically using one sample t-test at 95% confidence level. The optimum formula of red cabbage tablets was a combination of 2% (10 mg)CMC-Na and 6% (30 mg) methyl cellulose from the total weight tablet 500 mg with result 12,854 g/sec is flow rate, the angle of repose is 33,845o, tapped density is 4,667%, uniformity of weight is 0,427%, hardness is 4,617 kg, friability is 0,128% and disintegration time in 18,597 minutes. Prediction and verification data analysis resulted in no difference (not significant) at flow rate, the angle of repose, tapped density, friability, and disintegration time. Data with a significant difference was obtained in the uniformity of weight and hardness, but the data values correspond to the literature so the optimization results could be valid.
