Abstract
The development of motor fuel technology has progressed very rapidly. Producers engaged in the field are innovating to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of combustion from engines by producing large-capacity engines and have high compression ratios to improve the performance of motor fuel engines. However, engines with high compression ratios require high-octane fuel to prevent knocking which causing damage to the engine. Meanwhile, high-octane fuel has a high price in the market. There are various alternative ways to improve efficiency and save fuel usage on the engine has been done a lot. One of them is by mixing hydrogen gas with fuel both gasoline and diesel during the combustion process. This research utilizes Faraday's electrolysis process. Beginning with the process of designing and making a HHO generator composed of cells made from Stainless Steel 304 plate thick 0.8 mm. Then the plate is arranged with variations of 5 mm and 10 mm, and the use of the NaOH catalyst is regulated by 10 grams and 20 grams of mass with a dyed surface area of 504 cm2 to obtain the maximum production of HHO generator as octane booster, alternative fuel and its effect On the performance of motor fuel. The highest rate of hydrogen gas production is generated by the HHO E5 20 g generator with an average of 0.002041 g / s, wherein the HHO generator has a distance between the electrodes of 5 mm and the mass of the catalyst NaOH dissolved by 20 grams for every 1500 ml of water (H2O) distillation. With the highest HHO generator efficiency is owned by HHO E5 20gr generator with an average efficiency value of 81.59%. Then increase the maximum power of 6.1445 kW at 7000 rpm rotation speed, maximum torque of 9.3976 Nm at 6500 rpm rotation, and decreased average fuel consumption of 64.697 gr / s.
