Abstract
Mixed marriage is not a strange thing in the eyes of the people, they consider mixed marriage between Indonesians and western people is a common thing like marriage in general. For couples intermarry it is not as easy as one's view in general. As well as the differences in mindset between Indonesians and westerners, which Indonesians love to assemble, work together and have a small percentage of selfishness. While the westerners tend to be more on the progress of mindset and percentage for self-interest is greater than the people of Indonesia. Mixed marriage couples should be fair in treating every element of culture they bring, because everyone comes with their own cultural privileges. In this case they need to be fair in terms of values, norms, beliefs and also language. Associated with different cultures, mixed marriage mates should be able to unite two different values on their relationship. Couples must also be able to avoid misunderstandings and the emergence of conflict due to cultural differences. They have to negotiate on all sides because marriage is not a short-term relationship, so they also need to adapt to their environment as a form of negotiation between different cultural elements. This study uses descriptive qualitative method which is researching Indonesian people who are married to western people. The result of this research is in the negotiation process to avoid misunderstanding and the emergence of conflict on mixed marriage. Although sometimes there are things that are not as unobtrusive as they mutually respect the opinions that exist between them, this is to keep the relationship harmonious. In this way they can negotiate cultural values into their marriage to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts.
