Abstract

Background: The brachial plexus lesion is a peripheral nerve lesion originating from C5-Th1, where this injury can lead to muscle weakness and a tingling sensation in the part of the lesion involved. Brachial plexus lesions are caused by trauma in the form of excessive withdrawal or evolution. Recovery in these lesions varies, there are mild lesions which can occur spontaneous recovery (rapid recovery) and severe lesions where functional recovery is difficult to obtain. Objective: To find out the conditions and problems encountered in the case of BPI in the form of sensory disorders, decreased muscle volume and strength and to know the benefits and management of physiotherapy with the modalities of Electrical Stimulation and Exercise Therapy. Results: After treatment 6 times therapy gained the muscle strength score increased only on the elbow flexor T1: 1 to T6: 1 +, the elbow extension T1: 1 to T6: 1 +, flexor wrist T1: 3 to T6: 3+ , And the wrist extension T1: 2 becomes T6: 2+. For sensory capability there is still no improvement and for anthropometric measurements there is still no improvement from the muscle velume itself. Conclusion: The problems of brachial plexus injury cases are muscle weakness of upper movements, sensory disorders and muscle atrophy, which by providing physiotherapy with electrical stimulation modalities and exercise therapy has not shown significant change. In the process of recovery to normal in the case of BPI takes a long time.
