Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the relationship between social support with self-confidence, so that the authors propose the hypothesis "there is a positive relationship between social support with self-confidence". The subject in this study was the high school student of Muhammadiyah number of 6 of Surakarta amount of Fifty students. Sampling technique is the study of population, i.e. when a finite population and subject not too many, so that researchers need to examine all the elements that exist in the research area. Measuring instrument which used to reveal research variables there are kinds of measuring instrument, namely: (1) social support scale, and (2) the self-confidence scale. Data analysis in this study uses the product-moment correlation. Based on the analysis result, so that obtained correlation between social support with self-confidence of (r) of 0.589 with p = 0.000 where p < 0.01, this means there is a very significant positive relationship between social support with self-confidence. That is, the higher the social support then the higher self-confidence of the High School students inclusion of Muhammadiyah number 6 of Surakarta, and the other hand that the lower social support then the lower self-confidence of the student's inclusion of SMA Muhammadiyah number 6 of Surakarta. The empirical mean of the social support variable amount of 100.76 then a hypothetic mean amount of 87.5. So the empirical mean > hypothetic mean that illustrates that generally the high school student of Muhammadiyah number 6 of Surakarta has high social support. Further empirical mean of self-confidence variable amount of 147.38 with hypothetic mean amount of 125. So the empirical mean > hypothetic mean which means generally the high school student of Muhammadiyah number 6 of Surakarta has self- confidence is also high. The role of social support towards the self-confidence (SE) amount of 34.7%, that’s mean there is still 65.3% that affect self-confidence for example: the maturity of age, gender, self concept. Implication in this study is that hight of social support able to affects hight of self-confidence.
