Abstract
ABSTRACT This study deals with errors in speaking made by students at microteaching class of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The aims of this study are (1) To describe the types of errors in speaking made by students, (2) To describe the frequency of the errors in speaking made by students at micro teaching, (3) To describe the dominant error in speaking made by students, (4) To explain the sources of errors in speaking made by students. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source of this research is error means utterances made by English students in microteaching class. The data collection technique is documentation. The technique of data analysis is descriptive interpretative. The writer uses the theory from Clark and Clark to analyze the type of error. The result of this study shows that (1) there are three types of error namely: speech error, morphological error, and syntactical error; (2) the frequencies of each type of error are as follows: speech error (67.22%), morphological error (15.96%), and syntactical error (16.38%). (3) The dominant types of error is filled pause, there are 56 utterances of filled pause or 23.6%. (4) Sources of error are cognitive reason, psychological reason, and interlingual transfer.
