Abstract
This study is intended to present a description OF the accuracy of the messages in the Indonesian translation of English conditional sentences in Absen Natal. Based on the problem statement, the objectives of this study are to analyze the accuracy of Indonesian translation of English conditional sentence in the novel and to analyze the translation shift of conditional sentence in the novel. This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative study. To collect the data, the writer applies the purposive sampling technique and there were 66 item that were obtained. All of them were used as the data in this research. The data of this research are in the forms of conditional sentences taken from the two novels The data were analyzed by comparing target language translation and source language translation. Based on the data analysis, the writer can conclude that: first, from the analysis he finds the accuracy of English conditional sentences related to the data. The result of the data analysis shows that the Indonesian translation that has accurate messages can be found in one of the following conditions (1) accurate translation that has complete message are 10 data or 15,15%, (2) accurate translation that has extension of message are 10 data or 15,15%, (3) accurate translation that has reduction of message are 10 data or 15,15%, (4) accurate translation that has appropriate message adaptation are 9 data or 13,64%.The research data analysis shows that 26 items or 39,4 % that have inaccurate translation. Second, the writer describes the translation shift included in the data of English conditional sentences, is due to one of the following reason (1) inaccurate translation that has inappropriate conjunction are 9 data or 13,64%, (2) inaccurate translation that has inappropriate diction are 10 data or 15,15%, (3) inaccurate translation that has omission of message are 7 data or 10,60%.
